About this site
Kansas Permit Practice Test is a free study tool for students getting ready for the Kansas driver's permit knowledge test. It is made by Behind the Wheel, Inc., a driving school licensed by the State of Kansas.
Why we made it
Many students walk into the testing office having only skimmed the handbook. The rules are all there, but a long document is hard to study from. Practice questions work better: you answer, you find out right away whether you were right, and you read why. We built this site so any Kansas student can do that for free, whether or not they ever take our course.
How the questions are written
The site has 499 multiple-choice questions in 18 topics, from road signs and right-of-way to alcohol and drugs, sharing the road and special driving conditions. Every question is based on the Kansas Driving Handbook, and every answer comes with a short explanation and the handbook page it comes from, so you can read the full rule in context.
The questions are based on the edition of the handbook revised in February 2022. Laws and handbook pages can change. For anything that matters, such as your test day, check the current official handbook from the Kansas Department of Revenue.
How to use it
- Start with a topic test for the sections you find hardest, and read every explanation, including the ones you got right.
- Try the full practice test when you feel ready. It gives you 25 random questions from every topic, and your best score is saved on the home page.
- Read the handbook page listed under any question you miss.
- Repeat. Questions and answer choices are shuffled each time.
Your scores are saved only in your own browser. We don't have accounts and we don't collect your name or email. See our privacy policy for details.
What this site is not
This is unofficial practice material. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by the Kansas Department of Revenue, and doing well here doesn't guarantee you'll pass the real test. Think of it as a way to learn the rules and find your weak spots.
How the site is paid for
The practice tests are free and always will be. The site shows advertising to help cover the cost of running it, and ads are always labeled "Advertisement" and kept apart from the questions. We also tell visitors about our driving course, because that's our business, but you never need it to use this site.

Behind the Wheel, Inc. is a Kansas driving school, licensed by the State of Kansas. Practice tests are a good start, but nothing replaces a patient instructor and time spent driving.
